Maui offers some of the best scenery around. If you’re looking for beaches or beautiful jungle areas, Maui has them! Kapalua Bay and Baby Beach Lahaina are some of my favorite spots. Think of places that speak to your personalities best, and are accessible to everyone involved.

Evening light is the golden hour when photos of people are at their best. I try to schedule all sessions either early in the morning or an hour before sunset (taking into account your kids’ nap and meal times).

To avoid last-minute stress, make sure to pick out all family outfits and props well in advance. If your outfits are new, make sure your kids have a chance to wear them a couple of times before the day so they’ll be comfortable during the shoot.

Your clothing selection and choice of location will make the biggest difference in the final look and feel of your photos! Feel free to message me with photos/ideas/questions about what will look best for photos.

Don’t Match, Coordinate Pick a color combination for your family to work within. We don’t want everyone to match perfectly, but we also don’t want everyone wearing different colors and patterns that clash. Don’t Be Too Seasonal While the idea of outfits for the season may be appealing, our aim is to produce photos that you can use / display in your home year-round. Unless you live in the North Pole, Christmas only works once a year. Avoid Clashing Patterns Go for earth tones, textures, and solid colors. These are the most classic and timeless and will guarantee your outfits are still in style a year from now (rather than a trend). Consider layering clothing for more visual interest and movement. Fitted = Best While flowy articles of clothing can be fun and create movement, in general, opt for fitted clothing over baggy jeans and loose fitting shirts. Comfort Over Everything! We want your session to be fun and enjoyable for everyone involved. If your kids’ clothing is uncomfortable for them to wear, it won’t be nearly as fun, and their discomfort may show in the photos. If you’re planning on wearing new outfits, I’d suggest ‘breaking them in’ a few days in advance to get used to the feeling of wearing those clothes.
